Description: Patchouli essential oil is steam distilled from the dry leaves, and is usually available as a fairly viscous, deep orange-brown oil. The oil becomes a more intense color as it ages, and the older oil is preferred in the perfume industry for its more complex, mellow aroma. Common Uses: Patchouli essential oil is used for inflammatory skin conditions, such as eczema, psoriasis, dandruff and tinea. It also helps speed the healing of open wounds and the formation of scar tissue. Common Applications: Itchy Skin: Add 3 drops of Patchouli essential oil to 1 teaspoon of vegetable oil, or use undiluted. Apply to the affected area up to three times a day, and monitor the itching and inflammation. Three drops of Lavender essential oil can be added the the blend, if preferred. Mental Distraction: Vaporize 3 drops of Patchouli essential oil in a vaporizer, or wear 1 drop of Patchouli oil as a perfume on the collarbones to help focus and “ground” mental energies. Blends well with the following essential oils. Sandalwood, Bergamot, Cedarwood, Rose, Orange, Cassia, Myrrh and Opoponax.
